In some cases of extreme epilepsy, doctors perform hemispherectomy. During hemispherectomy, doctors remove half of the patient’s brain. Surprisingly these people are cured and they still retain basic motor, language, and cognitive skills. Neuroscientists at Caltech did a study on six patients you received hemispherectomy. They discovered that despite missing half of there brain these people had the same major brain networks as regular people. In fact, the networks had increased in all 6 patients.
