The Coronavirus is a major health concern and has affected many individuals worldwide. This sudden new and novel diseases have many people afraid and uncertain about the disease and the future. One reason why the Coronavirus seems scary to so many people is because humans are more scared about unknown risks than known ones. Paul Slovic, Baruch Fischhoff, 2 researchers, have identified a number of psychological characteristics that we use to measure dangerous situations and it shows that we are more scared about unknown risks. This is because unknown risks cause us to feel powerless. Your brain has a cognitive bias that makes situations such as the coronavirus see more dangerous and scarier than it really is in real life.
